All existing  and potential clients should understand that currently, as a matter of law, all communications between Attorney and Client via email are NOT PROTECTED under Attorney - Client Privilege.  The Courts of various jurisdictions have generally held to date that there is "no expectation of privacy" on the Internet.   This may change in the future with the current development of encryption technology.  However, there is no guarantee of a change in the status of existing law, and clients should therefore assume that all communications over the internet are not protected.  It is strongly recommended that:

1. Clients avoid communication and transmission of sensitive information or materials over the internet, and,

2. All non-sensitive communications between Attorney and Client be encrypted at a high level of security.  Under current law, this communication is not protected!

It is recommended that you obtain a Digital ID to allow for encryption of   e-mail.    Before we can access your encrypted e-mail, you will first need to transmit your Digital ID to us.   Your Digital ID is the "key" that will enable us to open and read your encrypted e-mail.    VeriSign, Inc. is Microsoft's preferred provider of Digital IDs.  You may obtain a VeriSign Digital ID by clicking here.   Simply click the link and follow the instructions for obtaining and sending a Digital ID.   Digital IDs for the Netscape Communicator are also available from VeriSign by clicking here.     Please call us at 508-478-2600 to arrange for transmission of our Digital ID that will provide you with the "key" to open and read encrypted e-mail sent to you from our office.
